From “back in the day” comes these wonderful commemorative medallions.

Each is attached to a thin rope of leather.

These important and culturally relevant items were handcrafted in Nigeria especially for Pan African City Alive. Size is 2 3/4″

The likeness of Dr. King is available in three styles. His inspiring countenance is produced in black on brass or in brass on brass. These two bear his name for all to see!  The third representation is a replica of Dr. King addressing the March on Washington 1963. Standing with his arm raised, the words are repeated again: I HAVE A DREAM. His name then appears at the bottom.

That memorable day at the Olympics in Mexico in 1968 when Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised a black glove covered fist encased is commemorated on this inspiring medallion. It is a reminder of self determination – Kujichagulia!

At the height of the mass popularization of self determination in the 1960s, came the Black Panther Party. When members showed up at the California State Capitol with unloaded rifles, their statement was instantly made.  This medallion commemorates that day and the work and vision of Founders – Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale!
